Strategic Focus

In the coming years, CIRI-IT will focus on expanding its activities in the areas of researchscientific collaborationhealth communication, and public health promotion.

The Centre is committed to strengthening and enhancing its operations by consolidating existing projects, launching new studies, and fostering collaborations across disciplines and institutions.

To support this growth, CIRI-IT plans to upgrade its research infrastructure, including new facilities and advanced equipment.

Key Development Goals

  • Expand the network of affiliated universities across Italy to increase academic collaboration and scientific capacity.
  • Broaden the national network of General Practitioners (GPs) and Family Pediatricians (PLSs) to support ongoing and future research activities.
  • Strengthen partnerships with national and international institutions, research organizations, and scientific societies.
  • Advance epidemiological and laboratory studies on Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) to assess the clinical, public health, and economic impact of major pathogens—particularly among vulnerable populations. Special attention will be given to emerging or re-emerging pathogens with epidemic or pandemic potential.
  • Design and coordinate observational studies evaluating the real-world effectiveness of vaccines.
  • Coordinate post-marketing surveillance to monitor vaccine safety and tolerability, in alignment with recommendations from European regulatory authorities.
  • Enhance collaboration with research groups working on mathematical modeling and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) applied to prevention and health promotion.
  • Develop and implement innovative data analysis systems using Big Data methodologies to process clinical, epidemiological, and diagnostic-laboratory datasets.
  • Reinforce communication with the national and international scientific community, sharing research outcomes coordinated by the Centre, and disseminate evidence-based information through the regularly updated CIRINET website.
  • Promote public-facing scientific communication, ensuring evidence-based messages reach the general population.
  • Organize conferences, seminars, and workshops aimed at continuous professional development for healthcare workers.
  • Provide scientific support to both regional and national public health services, while respecting the roles and competencies of the relevant institutions.
