{"id":1942,"date":"2025-06-25T12:44:35","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T10:44:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cirinet.it\/?p=1942"},"modified":"2025-06-25T12:44:36","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T10:44:36","slug":"the-centers-objectives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cirinet.it\/index.php\/en\/organization\/the-centers-objectives\/","title":{"rendered":"The Center\u2019s Objectives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mission and Objectives<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Inter-University Centre for Research on Influenza and Other Communicable Infections (CIRI-IT)<\/strong>&nbsp;serves as a national reference point in Italy for&nbsp;<strong>research, surveillance, and control of influenza and other transmissible diseases<\/strong>, particularly those&nbsp;<strong>preventable through vaccination<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, through partnerships with international research institutions, the Centre has also been involved in&nbsp;<strong>European projects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, visit the&nbsp;<strong>Research Projects<\/strong>&nbsp;section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our Objectives<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promote research on influenza and other communicable diseases at both the national and international level.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Design, organize, and manage\u00a0<strong>national clinical-epidemiological and laboratory surveillance networks<\/strong>\u00a0to assess the\u00a0<strong>clinical, health, social, and economic impact<\/strong>\u00a0of influenza and other transmissible diseases \u2014 both in the general population and in specific population groups \u2014 to support public health strategies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plan, coordinate, and conduct\u00a0<strong>experimental and observational studies<\/strong>\u00a0to evaluate the\u00a0<strong>efficacy, effectiveness, and safety<\/strong>\u00a0of vaccines and specific treatments for communicable infections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct laboratory activities for the\u00a0<strong>identification and characterization of pathogens<\/strong>\u00a0of high relevance to public health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop new methods for the\u00a0<strong>rapid detection and characterization of emerging pathogens<\/strong>, in line with recommendations from international health agencies, aimed at implementing\u00a0<strong>integrated and routine surveillance systems<\/strong>\u00a0(combining epidemiological and laboratory data) to support\u00a0<strong>national and regional strategic health plans<\/strong>\u00a0in response to infectious disease emergencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carry out\u00a0<strong>validation studies<\/strong>\u00a0of laboratory tests for the diagnosis of priority pathogens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plan, coordinate, and participate in\u00a0<strong>mathematical modelling and Health Technology Assessment (HTA)<\/strong>projects in the field of disease prevention.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote the development and implementation of systems for the analysis of\u00a0<strong>clinical-epidemiological and laboratory data<\/strong>\u00a0using statistical techniques based on\u00a0<strong>Big Data methodologies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to the development of\u00a0<strong>guidelines<\/strong>\u00a0for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of communicable diseases.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborate with\u00a0<strong>European surveillance systems<\/strong>\u00a0coordinated by the\u00a0<strong>World Health Organization (WHO)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster\u00a0<strong>technology transfer<\/strong>\u00a0to industry through the development and implementation of research projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Design and implement research projects aimed at\u00a0<strong>health promotion<\/strong>, targeting various population groups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote scientific debate and\u00a0<strong>disseminate research findings<\/strong>\u00a0through publications in national and international journals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support\u00a0<strong>educational initiatives<\/strong>, including conferences, congresses, and symposia on communicable diseases, to ensure\u00a0<strong>continuing education for healthcare professionals and research personnel<\/strong>.
