The 2023\u20132024 influenza season, was characterised by a high rate of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and\/or acute respiratory infections (ARI), mostly associated with influenza affecting approximately 15 million people and by a wide variety of circulating respiratory pathogens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to influenza, the number of ILIs was also susteined by other respiratory viruses, including Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in very young children and SARS-CoV-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The circular issued by the Ministry of Health for the 2024\u20132025 season urges regional authorities to plan timely and adequate procedures for vaccine procurement and recommends engaging general practitioners, pediatricians, and pharmacies to reach the minimum vaccination coverage target of 75%. The protection of healthcare workers is also emphasized as a key priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flu vaccination campaign will start in early October (week 40 of the year), but the vaccine will be offered to all eligible individuals at any time during the season. It will be provided free of charge for children aged 6 months to 6 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
